I have mentioned it before- a nourishing lunch is so important!
Do you know the feeling shortly after you've finished eating your lunch, how you get a bit tired? And then more tired after your next meal. Almost lethargic, you try to keep your eyes open and not focused on your job, the only thing in mind is sleep? Sound familiar? Next thing you do is grab a coffee and something sweet, because you NEED it! Right?
I have done that for years! Did it fix my tiredness? No, but I felt better for a little while, until I slumped again!
I thought those slumps were normal, all the people I worked with had them, because they all ate in the same way - everyone had morning tea together, bread, jam and coffee, most days chocolates that we received from a caring relative or a patient who was leaving us. Lunch was food from the canteen, usually healthy, but mostly with dessert. Afternoon shift change over - another box of sneaky chocolates!!!!
Sugar pike up, crash down, pike up, crash down- over and over and over again!
And as a nurse, I was walking around and was active after lunch. Not to imagine how horrible you must feel at a desk. A kid at school for example- how easy is it to drift off and miss valued information. The kids are so hyper and sugared up that they can't listen and concentrate. No win on both sides with the result being that kids don't progress at school. School levels are low as the national Naplan has shown already a few years in a row. It's not the teachers fault - it's way simpler: we feed our kids shit, and they CAN'T take in what they learn. You may think I am being, harsh, mean, wrong- am I actually? Think about it!
Because we have changed our eating habits we don't feel tired anymore after our meals. I actually have more energy to continue what I was doing than before the meal. Isn't that what food should be all about? Energy to get you going?
At school, my three older children perform extremely well. I don't say they are super smart, they are standard, one better in math, one better in literacy, but all 3 focused, independent, hard working & never lacking on concentration! They are all very good at sports, and that's mostly because they don't burn out so quick!
Real steady energy over sugar pikes!
The feedback from the teachers says it all!
I believe we are on the right track- give it a try, and you'll see the difference very quickly!
