Easter has become many parents nightmare!
Shelves are loaded with sweet must have treats, schools and sport clubs are handing out eggs, there are Easter hunts at play groups and in the park. The local shops and cafes hand out Easter eggs to kids, events advertise with visit of the Easter bunny- to attract families....... and the list goes on!
My kids go perfectly well with no sweets, they never ask for it, as there are so many other yummy treats and foods available! But comes Easter time, it also means trouble time in my house. They won't ask at home for it, but they struggle saying no to the Easter eggs handed out on the school bus, at school, the shop till, the petrol station- everywhere!
It usually goes like that: "would you like to have a chocolate egg?"
My kids:" no thank you!"
"only one, a treat won't harm!"
My kids: "em, we don't eat sugar"!
"it's Easter, of course you need some chocolate eggs!"
BANG! They have it in their hand, they smell it, and of course they eat it! I will never ever blame them for it! How hard is it to refuse & resist as an adult, let alone as a child.
I made my kids an Easter platter to share in class, to show that it's not all about chocolate!
Everyone loved it, every kid gobbled it up!
Healthy eating is not as difficult as you think , but it requires a little more preparation then handing out chocolate, that's for sure!
We are heading to Kalgoorlie over the Easter weekend for the first Junior State Round!
I am 100% certain we will be surrounded by chocolate eggs & treats!
But we will stay tough- no to sweets brings you way further! Riding without sugar doesn't make you better, but you certainly will be able to do it stronger for longer!
